IMPHAL, February 10: Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh today inaugurated a newly constructed indoor stadium under Department of Youth Affairs at Kakching Chumnang in Thoubal district.
Speaking at the inaugural function as chief guest, Ibobi said that the government set up mini sports complex in each of the District Headquarters with the firm aim to keep youths who are the future of the State fit and healthy.
He expressed that the indoor stadium will immensely help youths of Kakching and Wabagai.
Except for Bishnupur, the construction of mini sports stadium in all the districts is nearing completion, he informed.
The CM also informed that the indoor stadium at Kakching Chumnang was constructed as part of the ongoing construction of mini sports stadium at Wangjing Kondompokpi for Thoubal district.
He assured that the government will make earnest efforts to construct mini sports complex in each of the Sub-Divisional Headquarters in due course of time.
He appealed to MLA, DC and SDO of Kakching and Wabagai to submit a proposal to the government in consultation with Kakching Municipal Council regarding reorganizing of Wards under Kakching Municipality.
The matter can be put up in the Cabinet for giving consent to the reorganizing after having a threadbare discussion, Ibobi said.
MLA of Kakching constituency Y Surchandra who was the functional president appealed to the concerned engineers and contractors to complete the unfinished wall fencing and other remaining works of the indoor stadium as soon as possible.
He also appealed to the government to address the issue of surface connectivity, healthcare and traffic woes at Kakching with the rapid increase of population in the area.
The MLA drew the attention of the CM on the need for reorganizing of Kakching Municipal Council at the earliest to facilitate smooth administration in the area.
Today’s inaugural function was also attended by Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar Singh; MLA of Wabagai constituency Fajur Rahim; MLA of Tengnoupal constituency DK Korungthang and Chairperson of Kakching Minicipal Council M Inakkhunbi as guests of honour.
