IMPHAL, February 26: The five security personnel of the Manipur police, who was allegedly involved in the alleged harrassing of NSF leaders on February 14, have been suspended today.
An order issued by the Director General of Police, stated that a departmental enquiry is contemplated against the following police personnel in connection with the incident at Mantripukri, Imphal.
The suspended security personnel have been identified as Sub-Inspector Imtiyaz Rahaman of Tamenglong district, Havildar S Gunachandra Singh of 5th Battalion MR (No.05076566), rifleman W Jiten Singh 1st MR (No.15007257), rifleman O Bishwanath Singh of 1st IRB (No.405298) and constable N Surchandrajit of Imphal East (No.0915483), who are currently attached with the Cdo/Imphal East.
Subsequent upon the order, additional Director General of Police, IG incharge of Police (Administration) also sent a written intimation to the president of Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), Suhenthung Kithan, informing the NSF that the police personnel involved in the incident have been suspended after an enquiry was conducted by a senior police officer.
Further terming the incident as unfortunate and regrettable as it has caused inconveniences to some members of the NSF travelling to Ukhrul, it requested the NSF to withdraw its ban on Manipur vehicles in Naga populated areas.
