CHURACHANDPUR, March 28: Amidst a fierce protest of the Khousabung Sub-Division Demand Committee including bandhs, Churachandpur DC Lunminthang today inaugurated the SDO/ BDO office of Kangvai Sub Division.
The inaugural function was also attended by Kangvai Village chief KT Vaiphei who is also the additional DGP, SP Churachandpur Mangkhogin Haokip and chiefs of other villages of the area.
It may be mentioned that the inaugural of the new SDO office had to be called off two times earlier, due to the stiff opposition from the KSDCC in demand of changing the new sub-division to Khousabung Sub Division instead of Kangvai Sub Division.
The committee had also called an indefinite bandh today along the Tiddim Road against the authorities’ decision to inaugurate the office today.
Vaiphei in his speech after the inauguration appreciated the attending the village chiefs for their support. He further thanked the DC who had to face much problem in trying to reach the venue due to the opposition of the KSDDC.
In his speech, the DC said he was hurt by the misuse of social networking sites by certain individuals who are bent on defaming others.
He said he has been criticised and charged that it was his pet and personal wish to have the new office inaugurated today.
Denying the charge, he said in a democracy, he is bound to act according to the decision of the superiors.
He added, he has no personal interest in the creation of the new sub-division, and was only carrying out his duty under orders from his superiors.
He said he had always wanted an open inauguration function, unlike the in-camera inaugural function which was proposed by some.
He said the people should understand and try to value the good work of the government and that undermining the government works will mean no action and no development.
He said being the administrative head of the district, he is obligated to conduct his duty.
He said the inauguration of the office is in the interest of the people of the new sub-division, the district and the State.
The DC who was coming to the inaugural function was blocked for sometime by the volunteers of the bandh called by the KSDCC.
Meanwhile, in a press release, the committee has said that the indefinite bandh, which began from midnight of March 28 has been temporarily suspended with immediate effect.
However, we will continue our fight for justice till our goal is achieved, it said.
The Khousabung Sub-Division Demand Committee in unequivocal term condemns the State government’s covert action through Churachandpur district administration in inaugurating the office of SDO/BDO at Kangvai. The heedless action of DC, Churachandpur on this highly sensitive and sentimental issue and his direct involvement to implement the parochial agenda of the local MLA is a disgrace to the people of the area, it said.
The KSDDC is also perturbed by the blatant indifferent attitude of the State government towards the genuine grievances of the people by its disgraceful action seen today at Kangvai.
Therefore, being compelled, the KSDDC and people of the area announce their boycott on T Manga Vaiphei, MLA, 57-Henglep AC for betraying his people, undermining the voice of the people who elect him and hurting their sentiments beyond redemption, it said.
The Khousabung Subdivision Demand Committee and people of the area will never accept or recognise the inauguration of SDO/BDO office at Kangvai which was done surreptitiously by DC Churachandpur, it added.
We will not give any cognizance to the SDO/BDO which has been established against the wishes of the people by suppressing democratic voice of the people by the State govt, it said.
