IMPHAL, May 21: Due to the incessant heavy rainfall since yesterday, water levels of Imphal, Nambul and Nambol River are flowing above the warning level, causing apprehension of possible flash flood.
The water levels of the rivers receded on May 19 after the rainfall subsided but rose to the warning level again owing to the heavy downpour of rainfall since yesterday.
According to the Control Room of Irrigation & Flood Control Department (IFCD), the water level of Imphal River was recorded at 785.925 m above the warning level 785.900 m today evening.
The water level of the river may increase to an alarming level if the rain continues for few days. The flood stage of the river is 786.900 m while its highest flood level is 788.400 m.
As for Nambul River, the water level was recorded at 781.900 m above the warning level 781.175 m till evening 6 pm. Its flood stage is 782.175 m while highest flood level is 783.675 m.
At the same timing, the water level of Nambol River was recorded at 773.175 m much nearer to its highest flood level 773.770 m. The warning level of the river is 771.200 m with flood stage of 772.200 m.
The rate of rainfall at Kangpokpi was recorded at 28.00 mm, 5.00 mm at Saikul, 43.00 mm at Litan, 3.00 mm at Raj Bhavan and 3.50 mm at Lamphel as measured by IFCD today morning.
Apart from rising water level of the main rivers above the warning level, the heavy rainfall has also inundated low areas in Imphal and its surrounding places.
