IMPHAL, Mar 22 : In an embarrassing incident, a large number of Aadhaar cards and job card registry books belonging to the locals of Khurai Nandeibam Leikai and its surrounding localities were found dumped in Imphal River around 200 meters from the office of Khurai Nandeibam Leikai Gram Panchayat today.
According to information culled from the spot, the abandoned Aadhaar cards and job card registry books were found by some children who were playing along the river bank at around 11 am.
The children then informed about the discovery to local elders.
When the local elders pulled them out of the river, it came to light that the Aadhaar cards belong to the locals under Khurai Nandeibam Leikai Gram Panchayat.
The locals expressed strong resentment over the incident, saying the discovery of the dumped Aadhaar cards came at a time when they were waiting to receive them through post. Pradhan of the GP arrived at the spot and enquired about the incident.
One of the locals said that the Aadhaar cards were kept in a steel almirah at the office of the Gram Panchayat.
He claimed that the Aadhar cards and other vital documents were found missingsuspected to be taken away by unknown persons and later dumped in the river.
The locals suspected that the work might have been carried out by those persons who knew the whereabouts of the Aadhar cards. According to them, the Ward Members do not have the knowledge about the Aadhaar cards kept at the office. Till the time of filing this report it was not clear how the cards landed in the rivers
