Fair to promote cashless payment on April 2

IMPHAL: As part of the Centre’s policy to promote cashless mode of payment, Digi-Dhan Mela will be organised at City Convention Centre, Palace Compound, on April 2, informed chief secretary Oinam Nabakishore Singh.

Stating that the move for cashless mode of payment is aimed at achieving the dual objectives of promoting digital exchange and check
circulation of black money, Nabakishore told newspersons on Friday that the state capital is among 100 cities shortlisted for the fair. The City Convention Centre fair will be participated
by business groups from the sectors of banking, telecom, agriculture, retail, etc, the chief secretary informed.

Further conveying that, among others, the Imphal edition of the fair will be attended by Union minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju and MoS railways Rajen Gohain, he explained that objective of such fairs is to create awareness among the consumers and the business
community on the need for adopting digitalised payment. In addition to the recent demonetisation of high currency notes the Centre has been vigorously promoting cashless payment in the form of launching various channels/platforms such as RuPay, Aadhaar enabled Payment system (AePS), Unified Payment Interface (UPI), Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD), Immediate Payment Service (IMPS),
e-wallet and POS machine, the bureaucrat stated, adding that most of the banks have
also launched mobile apps to enable consumers make cashless payments in digital
form.

The Government of India has launched two schemes namely Lucky Grahak Yojana (for consumers) and Digi Dhan Vyapar Yojana (for merchants) on December 25 last, while the winners of the mega draw will be presented prizes by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a function in New Delhi on April 14. The highest prize for the Lucky Grahak Yojana is Rs 1 crore and Rs 50 lakh for the Digi Dhan Vyapar Yojana.

Joining the media briefing, PK Singh, Commissioner of Information Technology, which will host the fair, said that the Digi-Dhan Mela will feature around 30-35 stalls imparting knowledge about digital payment. A special draw will be held and eight lucky winners who have used digital modes of payment during the fair will selected as prize recipients.

The first prize winner will get a two-wheeler Scooty, LED TV for the second prize winner and RO Filter for the third prize winner in addition to presentation of five smartphones as consolation prizes, he added. IT secretary N Ashok Kumar and assistant general managers of SBI and UBI were also present at the press conference.
