IMPHAL, March 2: A contempt of court application has been filed in the Guwahati High Court, Imphal Bench by several candidates who were either not selected or under wait list in the recently announced results for the recruitment of Primary and Upper Primary Teachers under SSA.

Speaking to this reporter at Manipur Press Club, one of the aggrieved candidates alleged that several candidates in the wait list have higher scores than those selected under different categories.

He further alleged that those with Bachelor of Education and Diploma in Elementary Education qualifications have either not been selected or under wait list even though some have a higher score. He also expressed the confusion that has been created by declaring results under Annexure A and B.

On the other hand, in an exclusive interview with Imphal Free Press, Principal Secy of Education (S), Dr J Suresh Babu clarified that the high court orders have been fully complied with.

He explained that a one-time special permission was granted to the state by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTC) for relaxation of essential qualifications like BEd and Dip El Edu for the recruitment of teachers under SSA.

This was done in order to benefit a large section of the people in Manipur who may not necessarily have such qualifications. However, as per the high court order, candidates with BEd and Dip El Edu should be given preference keeping in mind the guidelines issued by the Union Human Resource Development Ministry.

Therefore, Annexure A of the results complied with this order and while the remaining selected candidates figured in Annexure B which includes candidates with relaxed essential qualifications, he added.

It remains to be seen if the High Court will concur that its order had been fully complied with. The High Court has scheduled to take the application up on March 5.
