Indefinite general strike hampers normal life at Moreh town

MOREH, March 2: An indefinite general strike imposed since 10am this morning by various local meira paibi bodies of Moreh town has adversely affected the normal daily activities of the border town today.

The general strike has been imposed against the arrest of five individuals by a team of the 9 Assam Rifles posted at Moreh Thursday night at around 10pm and the subsequent handing over of two of the five alongwith arms as militants to the Imphal police this morning.

Normal activitiesShops remained closed and vehicles remained off the roads today.

Inter-district transportation was also affected by the imposition of the bandh.

The purview of the general strike covers the Moreh border town and the National Highway 39.

A public meeting was also held this evening at 5pm at the campus of the Ima Kondong Lairembi, wherein it was resolved to take out a massive public rally Saturday morning at 8am.

The two arrested individuals alleged to be militants have been identified as Oinam Bisorjit Meetei, 24, son of O Rajen of Moreh ward no7 and Biren Singh of Nambol Phoijing and presently staying at Moreh Khunou.
