IMPHAL, June 30: The AMSU has organized a 3-day education workshop from June 24-26 as part of its ongoing campaign for transformation of education system in Manipur at its headquarters here.

Around 50 participants from different HQ District Committees, executives, volunteers, senior members and ex-members of AMSU took part at the workshop, the student body said in a statement today.

Thokchom Surjit who has vast knowledge about the education systems in India as well as the Northeast attended the workshop as a resource person.

At the workshop, topics like informal, formal and non-formal systems of education, education as a contested issue: the state agenda verses the religious and traditional agenda verses emerging neo-liberal/market agenda were discussed in detail, the statement said.

After discussing minutely, the workshop later unanimously agreed that the present education system attempts to alienate ourselves from the society and this does not allow going together with the welfare of the society, one’s income generating way and dignity of living. Hence such education system should be transformed.
