Pradhan clarifies on allegations

IMPHAL, June 30: The Moirangkampu Gram Panchayat, Imphal East Pradhan, W Dhiren Meetei today clarified on allegations made against him by former Pradhan of the Gram Panchayat Rameshwor terming it as baseless and unfounded.

Speaking to media persons at his office, Dhiren expressed that Rameshwor has made baseless allegations against him regarding misuse of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme funds amounting to Rs 27,43,166.

Rameshwor, who is presently working as a transporter with the FCI godown had made the allegations as notification through certain local dailies, he claimed.

Further in his clarification on the allegations, he said he has nine ward members working along with him and they have no complains whatsoever.

He continued that he is working sincerely together with his ward members towards the development of the area.

He said the amount has been used for the purpose of construction of the union shed at Moirangkampu Star Club, Waiting Shed at Moirangkampu Sajep Makha Leikai, Public Union Shed at Ningthoubung Khunou, renovation/repairing of bus waiting shed at Kongbathong and constructions of toilets at Moirangkampu.

Showing allegiance to the Pradhan, all nine members of the gram panchayat and the secretary were present during the press conference.

Further in his clarification, he said that Rs 4 lakhs was used in 2009-10 for the construction of a community hall located just opposite to the gram panchayat office and that Rs 5 lakhs and another Rs 3 lakhs were used in 2010-11 and 2011-12 in the construction of the same community hall.

However, the gram panchayat received a total of Rs 34,750 under the 12th Finance Commission for the construction of a toilet at Moirang Kampu union club building, he added.

He further appealed that instead of making baseless allegations; people should come forward and work with him for the betterment of the area.
