State lawyers to pressurise Union Min on demand

IMPHAL, June 30: The strike by the High Court Bar Association, Manipur (HCBAM) entered its 20th day on Saturday with a group of representatives of the association is likely to head for Delhi to meet Union Law Minister to press its demand.

HCBAM is on strike since June 10 demanding to appoint judges from the state bar and benches for the proposed separate High Court of Manipur.

Sources said that the HCBAM delegation is expected to leave Imphal for new Delhi on July 2 next month. The delegation will be headed by senior advocate N Kumarjit, president, HCBAM.

M Roshni Piba, secretary, HCBAM and its advisor, senior advocate Hijam Nabachandra are also parts of the delegation, the sources added. The delegation will meet with Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid and apprise him the demand of HCBAM in detail and also submit a memorandum to him.

HCBAM had earlier urged upon the state Law Minister to seek an appointment in favour of the association to meet Salman Khurshid in New Delhi.
