IMPHAL, July 2: Irked by the state government’s denial of issuance of their joining orders, 842 lady police constable candidates today staged a protest rally pushing their demand to the government.

The agitating police constable candidates who had completed training started the rally at Chingmeirong Khongnang Ani Karak and passed through Thangmeiband heading towards Khoyathong but the rally was stopped by personnel of City Police as they reached there.

Before starting the demonstration they held a meeting at the Manipur Press Club.

The police later allowed three representatives from the protesters to meet with the state Home Minister. But it was not known what transpired during the meeting with the Home Minister.

They said the Home Minister had earlier assured them to take up necessary steps to issue the joining orders by June 30 last.

Demanding issuance of the joining orders they also had submitted a number of memorandums to the government, they added.

They also appealed the government to meet the demand at the earliest possible.
