Manipur,IMPHAL, Sept 18 : As a nationwide protest against the hike in price, limitation in LPG gas and increase in FDI in the country, the Manipur state council Communist Party of India along with the Trade unions has called a general strike on September 20 starting from 6 am in the morning till 6 pm in the evening.
The general strike has been called as a protest against the Government’s policy to increase Rs 5 per litre for diesel, limiting consumers to only five LPG gas cylinders a year and the increase in Foreign Direct Investment, FDI in the country.
In a statement issued to the press, CPI Manipur state council stated with the increase in fuel price, the transportation and freight charges also increases upto 15 per cent, this the statement said will give a huge impact to the middle class family and the daily wage earners. The increase in fuel hike will particularly affect those people residing in the north east where the only means of transportation is mainly through road transport and where there are no railways, the statement added.
The increase in transportation charges has been confirmed by the transporters apex body of India, All India Motor Transport Congress, AIMTC, the statement added.
The statement further lamented the hardship one will face if the consumers were allowed only five cylinders of LPG gas cylinders per head per year, besides, the increased in foreign direct investment will also affect those small time daily wager earners especially farmers in the country, the statement added.
The statement further stated they would leave no stone unturned in their effort to put a halt and revoke the price hike, restriction on LPG gas cylinders and the increase in FDI issues and called a nationwide protest in September 20.
