IMPHAL, Oct 29: The Women Hostel number 1(Kombirei) of Manipur University which is an aged structure is no longer safe for the hostellers.
At around 2 am today, a large part of the ceiling caved down inside a room which nearly crushed the tenant, sources said. The student, Apisha of Senapati district and a third semester student of Life Sciences nearly escaped with her life. The concrete block which caved in smashed her table and computer.
The matter was inquired with the warden namely DrAshalata today evening.
She told IFP that the matter has been ‘settled’ and there are no further problems at present. She added that the structure is not a new one and is quite old.
She however refused to comment further on the episode and further directed this reporter to meet the concerned engineer of the University.
