HCBA to intensify its cease work strike

IMPHAL, December 3: The High Court Bar Association, Manipur (HCBA) has decided to continue its cease work strike with more intensity, demanding to appoint atleast seven Judges to the Manipur High Court, which will be coming soon, and to appoint all the Judges from within the state.

The decision was made during a meeting of HCBA held today at Bar office with its president senior Advocate N Kumarjit presiding over the meeting.

This was announced to media persons at a press meet after the meeting. The press meeting was attended by HCBA members including president N Kumarjit, secretary M Roshni Piba and executive member Kaidem Mani.

President Kumarjit speaking to media persons said that a delegation of the association went to Delhi and met Chief Justice AK Patnaik on November 27 and Union Minister of Law and Justice Dr Ashwini Kumar on November 28. At their meetings, the Chief Justice and Union Minister have given their assurances to fulfil the demands of the association to the delegates.

However, as of now, the association have not received any conformation that they will get their demands, the meeting was called and where the members decided to continue with the cease work strike and to intensify it if the need arises, he said.

The meeting has resolved to make an appeal to the Chief Minister to urge the Union Minister of Law and Justice, Union Home Minister and Prime Minister regarding their demands.

It has further resolved “to urge the concern authorities not to accept any form of recommendation made by Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court, who has no concern for HCBA and Manipur affairs.”

It has also resolved to continue with the cease work protest until they received a clear cut assurance that their demands will be made. 

To intensify their agitation a sub-committee was also formed at the meeting with senior Advocade RK Nokulsana Singh as chairperson, M Roshni Piba as convenor and Khaidem Mani Singh as member.

It may be mention here that HCBA started their agitation from July 7 this year and suspended it on August 8, and now the second phase of their cease work strike which they are saying that they (HCBA) will intensify, started from November 8.
