Solar street lights installed inside Sajiwa Jail

IMPHAL, Dec 19: 20 solar lamps will light up Manipur Central Jail at Sajiwa thanks to an initiative taken by the  Manipur Renewable Energy Development Agency (MANIREDA) under its Director Lourembam Manglem. Briefing media persons about the inauguration SO manipur Central Jail, IK Muivah said the Jail had been suffering from erratic power supply as electricity is available on alternate days during the night for brief hours. He said,”Prison staff and security personnel have to work with torch lights and the darkness inconveniences prison inmates as well.The setting up of 20 Solar Street Lamps inside the prison section and compound will provide immense relief to the Jail administration as well as the prisoners lodged in it.”

He continued saying that there are 7 sectors in the Jail in which 2 each solar lamps will be installed and the remaining 6 lamps will be installed in the Jail premises surrounding the sectors. Earlier, MANIREDA had conducted a survey on the roof top of the Jail and expressed its plan to set up a solar plant at the Jail.

The larger solar plant to be set up in the Jail will be of 100 KW and will be facilitated under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). The plant is expected to supply power for the entire computer, Door Frame Metal Detector, Hand Held Metal Detector, CCTV and mobile jammers round the clock, he added.
