IMPHAL, Dec 18: The Women Action for Development, Imphal has appealed to the 60 MLAs to table the issue of steep rise of crimes against women and children in the state.
A press statement of the organization has said that In this year only a total of 264 cases were recorded till December 18 – 23 rapes cases, 4 cases of rape and murder, 18 cases of suicide, 19 cases of murder, 41 cases of assault/injury, 7 cases of molestation, 4 cases of kidnap, 2 cases of threat,3 cases of abandon, 1 cases of burnt death, 61 cases of missing and 81 cases of child trafficking etc (Based on daily newspaper).
“We unanimously, framed seven point charter of demand made for the welfare of women and children in the state to discuss the matter at the floor in the 3rd Session of 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly commencing from 19th December 2012”, the statement said.
The demands include punishment of culprits involved in crimes against women, children, establishment of fast track court, a gender policy amongst others.
Other demands include, implementation of the revised draft Manipur State AIDS policy 2010, establish a Working Committee on Violence against women and children in the Legislative assembly among others.
