Manipur vehicles stranded at Mao Gate

IMPHAL, January 16: Around 50 vehicles have been stranded at the Mao gate after vehicular movement along a stretch of the National Highway 2 was blocked following the death of a man hit by a Tata truck from Imphal at Jakhama, Imphal last night.

The accident which occurred last night around 7:45pm at Jakhama killed a man while injuring two others. The involved truck which had left Imphal before it ran over the man bears registration no NL 01K 3442.

Following the blockade, 47 Tata trucks coming from Imphal has been stranded at Mao Gate till this late evening. There are also certain reports that some passenger buses have been stranded at Senapati along the highway. However it is learnt that other passenger vehicles like Tata Wingers has been taking the Chakavhama route to avoid the road block.

Meanwhile, the Mao Police OC has informed that the drivers’ union is in talks with the community to which the man belong to bring an amicable solution.
