IMPHAL, Jan 18: A woman was charred to death today at high security zone area of Sanjenthong VIP Colony at quarter no 5 type IV near the official quarter of the Chief Secretary DS Poonia. Retired IAS officer L Thangtawn aged about 62 and his wife Lamboi were out when the fire broke at their wooden extension of his quarter at 3 pm in the evening. A Manipur fire brigade team controlled the rage of the fire after 45 minutes but by then, the wooden extension of the quarter was almost completely charred.
A dead body was discovered after the fire was controlled. The dead body was completely burned beyond recognition. Later, the remians was identified as that of Lamneikim Paite aged about 45 hailing from Churachandpur. It is learnt that the deceased was physically weak and was staying with her sister who is L Thangtawn’s wife for the last 2 years. Police said that the fire seems to be caused by an electrical appliance that could have been left unattended or unsupervised . A case has been registered at the Porompat Police Station in connection with the incident.
