CM optimistic of Thoubal multi-purpose and Dolaithabi projects

IMPHAL, February 9: A team led by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi today inspected the Thoubal Multipurpose Project and Dolaithabi Project sites and instructed the concerned officials to finish the projects before the scheduled time.

According to a DIPR release, speaking during the inspection, the Chief Minister said that the Thoubal Multipurpose Project was aimed at completing by March 2015.

However, the government is now aiming to complete it before December 2014.

After seeing the work progress of the two projects along with the required materials being supplied on time, the CM has exprssed his optimism that the project will be  completed on time.

It may be mentioned here that the Planning Commission gave its approval in May 1980 and sanctioned Rs 47.25 crore for the Thoubal Multipurpose Project. The project will provide irrigation system using Thoubal River, as also drinking water to the people and hydro power generation, the release further said. 

Meanwhile, officials during the inspection informed that the construction work of the Dolaithabi project has been completed by 80 percent now and according to the Chief Minister’s instruction the number of the millers will be increase so as to speed up construction works, the release said.

The project got its approval after receiving clearance from the India Government in 1992 but the actual work started in the year 2006 and a sum of Rs 360 crore was sanctioned for the project, officials said according to the release.

Earlier, more than 10 months payment was due but now that Government has cleared all the payments, it said. 

The Chief Minister was accompanied by IFCD Minister Ngamthang Haokip and other engineers of the department, it added.
