Court orders payment of with-held family pension

IMPHAl,February 1: A petition regarding non-payment of family pension following the demise of a rifleman while he was serving at 2nd Manipur Rifles in Manipur police department was filed at the Guwahati High court which has ruled for the family pension  to be paid within one month to the family of the deceased by putting up the matter before the cabinet.

As per the report received by IFP, the name of the deceased is Hijam Inaobi, son of late H Dhananjoy Singh of Patsoi IV under Patsoi police station, and his rifleman no. Is 9117.He died on 9 October, 1990. His name was struck off in relation to his death from the Batallion, vide order no B-S/6/86-2nd MR dated 10 October, 1990, issued by 2nd MR Commandant.

However, the Government of Manipur had not paid the family pension to the family of Inaobi. Late Inaobi’s elder sister H Surchandra Devi,  filed a petition with Gauwahati High Court  for payment of the family pension. Despite her petition, the sister could not get the family pension and Hijam Tondon Devi,  wife of late H Dhanajoy and mother of the deceased, filed a petition with Gauwahati High court again. As per the ruling by Justice BK Sharma on 30 august, 2011 regarding the petition, that the authority concerned was directed to pay the family pension of the deceased within 21 Ocotber , 2011, an Imphal bench of Gauwahati High Court  directed the Principal Secretary (Home) Director General of Police, Manipur, Commandant 2nd MR, Joint secretary (pension cell) and Accountant General (A&E), Manipur to translate the ruling into action. Another court ruling  came along when the contempt proceeding was taken up following the petition against the respondents  as the order was not complied. As per the court ruling by Justice SR sen, Imphal Bench of Gauwahati High Court regarding the non payment of family pension , Commandant Mr Sarangthem Manaobi Singh and Joint Secretary (pension cell) Athem Muivah, MCS were summoned to court  on 28 January and it was directed to pay family pension to late H Inaobi’s family by putting the matter before the cabinet without further ado within a month from 28 January, 2013.
