Drugs seized at Imphal airport on Feb 24

IMPHAL, February 26: The Narcotics and Affairs of Border seized a large amount of illegal drugs from the Imphal Tulihal Airport on February 24 at around 3:35 pm. According to a press release of the Narcotics & Affairs of Border, Superintendent, “Acting on specific information that some illegal substances are being transported through AIR cargo, Inspector RK Bikramjit Singh, Officer In Charge, Narcotics and Affairs of Border PS under the supervision of Md Ishak Shah, Supdt of Police NAB along with a team rushed to Tulihal Airport, Imphal at around 3:35 pm of February 24”.

It said, “While the police party were looking for the illegal consignments, one non Manipuri youth in his early thirties was seen standing near the public parking lot along with the suspected consignment/cartons viz consignment no.3136436”.

The release further said that the police party surrounded him and detained him  and on checking of the cartons numbering three covered by white plastic gunny bags as many as 1,03,500 (one lakh three thousand and five hundred) numbers of PETAS-TR tablets containing suspected Pseudoephedrine were found in three boxes of different sizes.

The statement further informed that the person identified himself as one Rajkumar Rai (32) son of Ramananda Rai of Thangal Bazar near Anand Continental Hotel, permanent address Tulsipur Bihar, distinct Begusarai.

The name was the same as the one written on the three boxes i.e R Kumar Thangal Bazar Imphal. Manipur (IM) 9863224566, it said.

“The illegal drugs were sent through one courier service namely SKYLARK EXPRESS, Thangal Bazar”, it said.

No senders name was written on the cover,  it added.

The statement further continued that the suspected person was arrested along with the seized items by observing all necessary formalities and brought to the Police Station.

The estimated cost of the drugs may be worth around eight lakh rupees in the grey market, it further continued.

A regular FIR Case has been taken up against the arrested person for further investigations, it said.
