HM praises State police on drug haul

IMPHAL, February 27: The State Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam who is also the Home Minister has lauded the police personnel who had successfully seized a huge haul of illegal drugs from Pallel some days back.

Speaking to media persons at a press conference held at his Babupara residential quarters this evening, the Home Minister said he is elated and happy at the success and further congratulated the police personnel involved.

The Home Minister said authorities will be able to make a breakthrough against those involved in drug related cases in the state which has somewhat become a “drug corridor”.

While elaborating that the police alone cannot solve the drug issue and eradicate it from the state, he said that the police need support from the people.

He continued that state cabinet had already resolved to hand over the case of drugs seizure from the Imphal Airport on January 11 to the CBI. “As for the Pallel case, the government is considering whether it would be more effective to hand over the case to the Central Drug Control Bureau,” Gaikhangnam said.

Acknowledging that he has heard about the arrest of a MLA’s son with illegal drugs in a follow up action by the police on the Pallel case, he said anyone found involved in the case will not be spared.

He elaborated further that everyone found involved in the case regardless of his or her stature will be punished according to the law.

The Home Minister further said that he has high hopes that the state police will continue with their good performance.
