Women stage protest in front of Imphal Tulihal Airport against drug trafficking

IMPHAL, February 27: Representatives of various civil society organizations and student bodies of the state stormed Imphal Tulihal Airport today protesting against the airport being used as a transit and shipment point for illegal drug consignments to and from the state.

The protestors demanded that illegal drug related activities should be put to an end immediately and submitted a memorandum to the General Manager of the Airport Authority of India, Tulihal Airport Imphal.

The protest was staged this noon at around 1.30 pm.

Protestors shouted “No more importing of illegal drug consignment”,  Suspend airport authority officials  involved in the importing of drug through the airport in the state” etc during the protest.

Later, a team of Imphal West commando team arrived at the spot and took the situation  under control.

Police allowed the protestors to submit a memorandum to the General Manager of the Airport Authority of India Tulihal Airport Imphal.

The memorandum called for action against the Airport authority officials and staff who are involved in the import of illegal drug through the Airport and that airport authorities should take up appropriate measures to stop the import of illegal drug consignments at the earliest .
