Gaikhangam on VDF issue

IMPHAL, March 8: Dy Chief Minister Gaikhangam appealed to VDF personnel not to pressurize the state government while saying that the government understands the hardship faced by them and that they  would be dealt with from time to time.   

Replying to a calling attention motion raised by MLA L Ibomcha Singh on the third and concluding day of the House today, on the reported ongoing protest by VDF personnel for increase in their honorarium and provision of service security, Gaikhangam who holds the home portfolio, said that VDF members are very useful and they have joined voluntarily. They were also notified before joining that the honorarium would be Rs 3000 with Rs 1000 allowance. 

Gaikhangam further said that due to poor financial status of the state government nothing can be done as of now and appealed the VDF members not to pressurize the government. He also added that the government acknowledges their hardship and will discuss the matter from time to time and when the financial status of the state improves the government will consider their demands.
