Sit in protest over kidnapping of 14 yr old fencer

IMPHAL, April 19: Womenfolk of the Kongba area at Wangkhei  Kongba and members of the Oriental Leveler Association (OLA) club organized a mass sit in protest at the Club ground today against the attempt to kidnap a 14 year old fencer of the Sports Authority of India Khuman Lampak Sport complex by unknown persons from the Telipati area  under Porompat police station in Imphal East on April 17.

Speaking to the media,  one of the women present in the protest said that they condemned the act of kidnapping a 14 year old school boy and sportsperson. “Such acts should not be carried out and whoever is involved in the kidnapping should clarify over the matter,” she said.

Speaking to the media person, the  fencer of SAI who hails from Kongba Athokpam Leikai said that on the evening of April 17, he went out from the SAI hostel to buy some eatables from the market after crossing the suspension bridge on Telipati side when some unidentified persons coming in a white maruti van asked him to stop on the pretext of inquiring something.

He further said that during that time one unidentified person took out a handkerchief and draped it around his nose after which he lost his consciousness. “When I regained consciousness, I found myself in the Maruti van at a market place located at Yairipok area. None of the earlier occupants of the car were around and taking advantage, I ran away from the spot and rested at a waiting shed,” he said, adding that he took the help of some women of yairipok Koirom who informed SAI and his family members. 

It may be mention that reacting against the kidnapping of young and promising players, officials of the SAI and coaches took out a protest rally earlier.
