Drugs worth Rs 52 lakhs seized

IMPHAL, April 19: Officials of 8th MR Post located at Saivom Post at NH 2 Indo-Burma Road under Chandel District has seized 5,21,759 pieces of Pseudo-Ephydrine Tablets which were being transported to Moreh at around 8:30 pm yesterday.

According to an official report received by IFP from Tengnoupal Police, the  packed drugs were being ferried towards Moreh by 4 persons on foot along the hilly terrain. As per prior information received by 8th MR personnel of Saivom Post, a special patrolling drive was conducted and the four persons arrested with drugs. They were then handed over to Tengnoupal Police Station this morning.

The arrested persons are identified as Saikholen Mate (28) S/o Helkhai Mate ofTengnoupal Village, Jamkholet Haokip (50) S/o Late Doujang of Saivom Village, Yangthong (25) S/o Thangkhoyam of Saivom Village, and Ngamkhai Touthang (40) S/o Late Linchao of Tuisomjang Village.

The arrested drugs were of two kinds totalling 5,21,759 tablets and is said to be worth Rs 52,17,590 in the local market. Tengnoupal Police Station has registered a case and the four arrested will be brought to the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Chandel tomorrow.
