Brown Sugar worth Rs 1.5 lakh seized

IMPHAL, April 28: A combined team of NAB-PS and Thoubal district commando unit arrested on April 27, five persons along with 2.480 kg of Brown Sugar from the northern side of Lilong Bridge near Chajing Lamkhai, Imphal West, said a press release of the PRO, Police Department.

The release further identified the five arrested persons as Md Firoz Khan alias Thoiba, 22, son of Md Hayed Ali of Lilong Nungei Awang Leikai, PS-Lilong in Thoubal district, Nongthombam Ronel Kumar Singh alias Inao 32, (the driver of the Tata Truck), son of Rajen Singh of Thoubal Kiyam Siphai, Babubazar, PS-Thoubal, Md Feroz Khan alias Fero, 34 son of Md Kashim Ali of Moijing Awang Leikai, PS-Thoubal, Md Saroz Khan, 23, son of Md Samaru Rehman of Moijing Wangma Taba Khongmanung, PS-Thoubal and Nongthombam Bishworjit Singh alias Lumba, 25, son of N Rajen Singh of Thoubal Kiyam Siphai, Babubazar, PS-Thoubal.

The illicit drugs were found concealed in a Tata Truck (ten wheels) bearing registration No ASO1 EC-6416 coming from Thoubal towards Imphal along NH-2. Five mobile phone handsets with SIM cards along with Indian currency amounting to Rs. 1,50,0001- (Rupees one lakh and fifty thousand) were seized from their possession. The estimated value of the seized Brown Sugar drug is Rs. 11,00,000 (Rupees eleven lakhs) in local market, it mentioned in the release.
