LAMKA, April 28: The number of students at the Vimala Raina Government High School at HQ Veng has dramatically increased from 230 students last year 505 this year according to the school principal.

However, it is not all good news for the school. even though the number of students have dramatically increased, since the infrastructure has remained the same, it is hard for the school authorities trying to accommodate all the students.

The classrooms are congested and with the coming of the summer, it is only becoming worse for the students.

Each classroom is 10-15 sq feet big with around 40 students sitting in each class.

The school’s principal T.Donglianpau said he had talked to the state education department authorities several times, but is yet to receive any positive reply.

He told this IFP reporter that he had repaired and added some new furniture costing around Rs 75000, with the hope that the amount will be reimbursed. However, the amount is yet to be reimbursed, he added.

Since, the school classrooms cannot accommodate any more students; he said he was forced to reject many more applications for admission.

Several teachers also complained that it is really hard for even them to teach their students in such congested classrooms. The further lamented that it could take a toll on the health of the students, particularly the lower classes.

According to a notice pasted on the wall, the school was constructed under the MSDP 2008-2009 and was inaugurated by T Phungzathang the then Power minister on July 1, 2011.

Another problem which will disturb the atmosphere in the school is the transfer of teachers.

The school will be robbed of 20 teachers from the present strength of 34 teachers during the re-deployment/ reallocation of teachers.

Meanwhile  , under the ages of the  SSA CCpour District, a three day refreshers training program for selected teachers/instructors of residential and non-residential special training Center under out of school children was inaugurated at Synod Hall, Lamka today, which will end on April 30, 2014.

Mainstreaming of out-of-school children in their age appropriate classes was taken up by the DIC(Plang&SG) SSA to the selected teachers.
