Floral show marks end of Shirui Lily Week

UKHRUL, May 21: A magnificent Flower Show marked the closing ceremony of the Shirui Lily Week observance here at Ukhrul Town Hall on Wednesday.

The floral competition is held each year as part of the Shirui Lily Week celebration with the aim of creating awareness on nurturing and preserving indigenous varieties of flower in the district.

The closing function of the weeklong observance was today graced by AS Ningmi, Jt Director, Horticulture & Soil Conservation.

In his address, Ningmi highlighted the importance of protecting soil and natural environment while testifying that everything comes from the soil.

He then called upon the people of the district to come together and make concerted efforts to preserve the rich Shirui Kashong, and reminded that “it is still not too late to work towards that end.”

Tens of hundreds of myriad flowers of every hue were on display at the outside of the town hall. Judging was conducted by a panel comprising of V Ngaranmi, AO Horti. &Soil conservation dept, L Sorei, SMS Horti KVK and President TSL Ringluiwon.

Christina & co. were adjusted the winner of the floral show, while Shirui Shanao Long and Shanti & co. won second and third prizes respectively.

Christina –who also won the best flower title at Shirui Lily Week last year– said that she maintains a yearlong floral care regime and switches varieties between seasons.

“This is how we take part in this show and won the title, ” she asserted.
