IMPHAL, May 20: The Joint Students’ Co-ordination Committee (JSCC) convenor Thangjam Premananda has stated that the joint student’s body has submitted memoranda to both the Governor VK Duggal and Manipur Public Service Commission chairman to not conduct the mains examination of the MSCSS examination on Tuesday. The convenor of the joint students’ body, comprising various students’ bodies such as AMSU, MSF, DESAM, KSA, SUK and AIMS, also stated that its volunteers have barred the issue and collection of forms for the main exams scheduled on July 14.
A press release signed by both Premanda and co-convenor M Angamba has stated that the students’ body demands transparency in the selection process of MPSC. The press release enumerates the mistakes committed by the commission: awarding grace marks for 15 questions declared to be invalid; uploading the wrong answer keys thrice in the commission’s website; declaration of the results twice contravening the 1:12 selection ratio; lifting questions directly from past UPSC exams and candidates being selected on the basis of wrong answer keys.
Pointing out that there is no such system in the country where candidates are awarded grace marks for wrong questions in competitive exams, the press release states that the joint student’s body suspected the selection of students on the basis of wrong answer keys, adding that it was necessary to stop the process of conducting the main examination until the commission provided a valid reason for the glitches in conducting the preliminary exam.
Meanwhile, the All Manipur Muslim Girl Student’s Union, United Minority and Student Federation of North East Education and Social Upliftment Department have condemned the haphazard manner in which the MCSCC Examination,2014 was conducted.
In a press conference at the Press Club, president of All Manipur Muslim Girl Student’s Union, Rukshar said it is unfortunate that the examinations conducted by MPSC are full of controversies and anomalies year after year; continuing that it’s apparent that the commission is not functioning properly and the state government is turning a blind eye to the issue.
After the examination answer keys were published by the commission with full of errors and omissions despite getting lots of complaints with reasonable explanation including references, the commission failed to publish the final answer keys, she added.
Questioning the commission on the basis of which answer keys they have announced the results because the answer keys it has provided is disputable, she said the commission has floated the norms of the notification and the permissible numbers of successful candidates.
Now, the number of total successful candidates has reached up to 900 approximately which can’t be permitted under the commission’s rules and regulation. To cover up their illegal activities, the commission has started issuing main examination forms based on their notification, she said.
“As there is no official clarification from both the state government and the commission, the All Manipur Muslim Girl Student’s Union and United Minority and student federation of North East Education and Social Upliftment Department strongly condemn the act of negligence and demand the commission and the state government to address the issue at the earliest”, she said, “As the commission has failed to address the issue: a fresh notice for re-examination or re-evaluation must be issued within seven days; and all responsible officials must be made accountable for the whole controversy and asked to resign on moral grounds.”
She also stated if the commission fails to conduct re-examination or re-evaluation they will start all forms of agitations to fulfil their demands and both the commission and the state government shall be held responsible for any unwanted incidents arising out of it.
