Murder convict gets life sentence

IMPHAL, September 3: In a landmark judgement the Court of Session Judge, Bishnupur today sentenced to life imprisonment a convict in the murder case of Moirangthem Mohan Meitei.

The convict has been identified as Kangabam Ibomcha Meitei son of (L) K Gambhir Sing of Napal Awang Leikai.

The verdict was pronounced by M Manojkumar, Sessions Judge, Bishnupur after having pursued carefully all the materials on records.

Kangambam Ibomcha was sentenced to suffer rigorous imprisonment for life and to pay a fine of Rs 10,000.

During the hearing, A Nilachandra Singh, additional PP appeared on behalf of the State of Manipur while advocate, Y Ramananda Singh as Amicus Curiae.

The petitioner’s counsel prayed for awarding capital punishment of death sentence citing the ghastliness of the crime committed by the accused.

Moiragthem Mohan Meitei was murdered inside his own house by severing his head off and stabbed on April 26, 2012.

However, the defendants’ counsel pleaded for pardoning and awarding minimum sentence citing that there was no prior antecedent against the accused.
