Imphal, October 5: Capturing the lone seat at the Hiyanglam bye-poll is the key if the BJP has to succeed at the general assembly elections in 2016, stated National BJP leader Rameshwar Prasad Chaurasia

In a press meet at the BJP office this evening after landing here, the BJP leader said the Hiyanglam seat is vital to the BJP Manipur Pradesh and we are optimistic that our candidate Maibam Dhanabir Singh will emerge triumphant in the bye-poll as people of Manipur are desperate for development in the State.

The fact that a National BJP leader is in the State specifically for the Bye-Poll is an indication of how serious the party is about the by-poll, he said, adding that the Congress government has been ruling Manipur for the last 13 years but unfortunately there is little development which is due to corrupt practices prevalent in the State.

The Union government has sanctioned adequate funds in the State for developing infrastructure such as the development of the Railway project and cleansing of the Loktak Lake etc but due to corruption, the nexus between politicians and militants, and the siphoning of funds by bureaucrats and politician of funds without delivering it to people, the State remains underdeveloped, says the BJP leader.

Chaurasia said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a vision to erase corruption throughout the nation as he is committed to social welfare of the people. Because of his sincerity and dynamic leadership, Modi has emerged as the most popular politician in the world today, Chaurasia added.

The Hiyanglam bye-poll is the first ever election which the BJP Manipur Pradesh will contest after the BJP assumed power at the Centre. BJP has kept a simple target of opening its account in the coming by-election as of now but plans to form the government after the next general assembly election in 2016 at the State. Manipur is in a vulnerable situation but now under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, peace will return to Manipur, the National BJP leader said.

He said the incident involving ace boxer L Sarita Devi is unfortunate but she will see more success like never before.

Talking about the repair of NH-37 included in the 100 day Modi programme and the manifesto of the BJP during the Lok Sabha polls, and the scam related with cleansing Phumdhis in Loktak Lake, he said the time available to the new government was short and the job to be done was enormous as the previous government hasn`™t initiated anything.

Construction works along the NH-37 will soon commence and an inquiry committee will visit the State to investigate the Loktak Lake Scam, he added.

The National BJP leader said corruption is the main cause for underdevelopment in the State and the main agenda of the BJP is to root out corruption after which development will soon follow.
