Phungzathang takes over as village chief

LAMKA, November 3: State Health minister Phungzathang Tonsing today took over as the chief of Tuithapi Village- a village with 35 households and just a stone’s throw from the main Lamka Town.

The function of the handing over of the chieftain was titled ‘for development of Tuithapi Village’ and attended y who is who of the constituency.

Singhat MLA GS Haupu, ADC Churachandpur chairman L Guite, ADC Churachandpur executive members Mangchinkhup Hauzel and S Kamsuanlun, ADC Churachandpur MDCs Grace Zamu Khaipou Haokip and Suanchinpau Guite attended the function.

The function which is one of its kinds witnessed in the village under Saikot A/C was also seething with participation of 23 Village chiefs from the area apart from the Churachandpur DC Lunminthang Haokip. On the occasion the outgoing chief and the late village chief Chinkhothamng Tonsing’s widow Ngaizavung Tonsing handed over the chief ship to the minister by handing over all the required documents that legally bestowed the chieftainship to the new chief which the widow of the late chief said is the need of the village in the interest of the villagers.

The traditional ‘Sabak’ or the meat loaf were offered to the 23 chiefs present and others present including grandson of the founder of Lamka Town Thamgkhosuanmung Guite.

The village of Tuithapi was established in the year 1946 by Vungluai Tonsing, father in law of the outgoing chief, who said the new chief is a need of the hour.

A grand feast was also held during the function for the villagers.

The minister and new chief said that he was not prepared to head the village as its chief but due to the persuasion of the outgoing chief and wish of the villagers, had to take on the role.

He promised that he will try his best for the development of the village which was responded with a thunderous applause from the villagers.
