IMPHAL, 11 May: Samina Malik has been appointed as the Chairperson of Minority Department of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), announced Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam who is also the president of MPCC during a press meet at his Babupara quarter today.
He said that the appointment was done after getting approval from Sonia Gandhi, president of Congress party and exuded confidence that Samina Malik will execute duty to her best ability to further strengthen the committee.
Asserting that appointment of Samina Malik could be seen as a milestone as women from Muslim community are rarely elevated to such designation, Gaikhangam who also holds the portfolio of Home congratulated the woman on her appointment as the Chairperson of the committee.
Responding to a query on the proposed visit of Chief Minister of Nagaland TR Zeliang to Chandel district tomorrow in connection with election campaign for the ensuing ADC election, the Dy CM made it clear that the proposed tour of the Nagaland CM is unofficial but admitted that he was casually informed by the concerned DC for security arrangement. Regretting that he as a Home Minister has not been officially informed about the visit of the VVIP, he said that the concerned DC and SP had been asked to arrange adequate security for the Nagaland CM.
