IMPHAL, June 16: The All India Students Federation has appealed to the concern authority to revoke the hike in admission fees in the eight government higher secondary schools located in Imphal and further warned of intense agitation if the government fails to do so.
Speaking at a press conference held today at the AISF office, general secretary Kh Rameshor Singh said there are altogether 39 higher secondary schools in the State and highlighting only the eight selected schools is unacceptable.
He said the government should look at all the schools in the same manner and none should be deprived of what the government is providing to the others.
The same facilities should be provided equally to all schools, he said.
He continued that the sudden hike in admission fee from Rs 1800 last session to Rs 2900 this session in the eight schools is highly unacceptable.
This will put extra pressure on the poor parents who want their children to pursue higher education, he continued.
The hike has been made following an appeal from school authorities including teachers and principals who cited that admission fees should be increase as the prices of commodities are also rising.
Rameshor also said that the reason is not reasonable and acceptable.
He continued, the admission fee includes several charges for several facilities like parking, study tour, guidance among others which are not at all enjoyed by the students.
He further questioned the interest of the teachers who had appealed for the fee hike.
