AMSGO calls for change in school students` union election process

IMPHAL, October 19: The All Manipur Students Guardians Organisation has called upon the concerned authorities to modify the process of college and higher school students`™ body election from next academic session.

Speaking at a press conference at the organisation`™s office at Singjamei Sougrakpam Leikai, secretary of the organisation Sougrakpam Sumati Devi urged the concerned authorities to initiate steps so that the November 2 election of students`™ union of Higher Secondary schools and college is conducted in accordance with the code of conduct imposed by the Lyngdoh Commission.

She appealed to the concerned principals and the returning officers to ensure that the code of conduct is properly complied to.

The recent confrontations among students reported during the recent higher secondary school students`™ union election are unfortunate she said, and further urged the candidates to ensure that the election is held in a peaceful manner.

Such altercations create animosity among the students studying in the same school, she added.

Sumati further appealed to student organisations to support the effort to make the school students`™ union election peaceful.

At the same time, she suggested modifying the election process from next session so that it may not affect the academic calendar.
