KSO and ANSAM extend ultimatum till Dec 16

KANGPOKPI, December 9: The Kuki Students’ Organization, GHQ and All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) have decided to extend the ultimatum of launching democratic forms of agitation in connection with the State Government Order, dated March 11, 2013 from December 10 to December 16 today.

The decision to extend the ultimatum came during a joint meeting today between representatives of the student bodies and representatives of Board of Secondary Education Manipur on the reintroduction of Additional English in the scheme of study in class IX and X.

The joint meeting was chaired by Board of Secondary Education, Manipur Secretary Dr Ch Sarat.

A joint press statement of the student bodies signed by Seiboi Haokip, general secretary, KSO-GHQ and Alexander Huten, general secretary, ANSAM said that the meeting today have decided to hold talks again on or before December 16 and added that as the meeting has understood the practical difficulties of the student’s community and committed to resolve the issue the student bodies has extended the ultimatum till December 16 which was earlier scheduled on December 10.

It further said that the issue is not about extending the option of Additional English to students whose mother tongues are not in the list of MIL curriculum for one or two academic sessions.

“The demand is for the right to permanently exercise the option of Additional English by all students whether their mother tongues are in the list of the Board’s MIL curriculum”, it added.
