IMPHAL, January 10: The All Manipur Road Transport Driver and Motor Worker Union (AMTRD and MDU) will observe the 27th Drivers’ Day Observation on January 14 at Langjijng Achouba Truck Parking said AMTRD and MWU secretary M Anil.
Speaking at a press conference held at their office at MG Avenue today, Anil said that the day is being observed as every year remembering the 212 departed brave souls of drivers and handymen who lost their lives in their line of duty serving the people of the State.
As part of the observation, all drivers will leave the steering wheels for the day, he said.
He continued since January 14, 1990 the struggle for the drivers of Manipur has been continuing.
The observation will be participated by drivers, handymen, and families of the departed souls and pay floral tributes to those killed along the Imphal, he said.
Many drivers and handymen have been left crippled for live following torture and assault by anti-socials, he added.
He further appealed various civil organizations or any individual or departed drivers’ families to attend the observation without any hesitation.
