HC directs Sanjit’s mother to approach trial court

IMPHAL, February 26: Acting on the case filed by mother of Chungkham Sanjit Simgh, Ch Taratombi in the High Court of Manipur on the killing of her son in a staged fake encounter at BT Road on July 23, 2009; the court has directed the disgruntled mother to approach the trial court to admit her petition.

Talking to this daily, counsel of the petitioner Senior Advocate Khaidem Mani said that the writ petition was filed in the court on February 22 last, pleading to direct full- fledged further investigation into the killing following the sensational confession of Head Constable Herojit who declared that he shot unarmed Sanjit on orders of the then Addl SP Imphal West Dr Ak Jhalajit.

He further said that the petition urged to award punishment to the SP in accordance to the law and give direction to CBI to initiate fresh investigation into the infamous killing case.

The case hearing was conducted in the Bench of Chief Justice Laxmikant Mohapatra and Justice Kh Nobin Singh, Mani informed.

He also informed that the court disposed the petition as trial of the case is going on in the District & Sessions Judge/Imphal West and that the petitioner was asked to approach the trial court.

He added that it depends on the petitioner Ch Taratombi to approach the trial court or not.
