BISHNUPUR, February 27: Election for electing Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of Moirang Municipal Council was held today at the office of SDO Moirang with SDO Md S Daulat Khan acting as the presiding officer.
Councillor of Moirang Municipal Council Ward No 12 Mairembam ongbi Romibala Devi (BJP candidate) and Councillor of Ward No 1 Loitam Chitramani Devi (INC candidate) faced each other for the Chairperson seat while Councillor of Ward No 9 Mairembam Basanta Singh (INC candidate) and Councillor of Ward No 4 Narengbam Ibomcha Singh (BJP candidate) contested each other for the Vice-Chairperson seat.
Altogether 12 Councillors cast vote in the election.
As both the seats secured six seats each in the election, the SDO had to toss coin to declare the winners.
By the virtue of the toss, Romibala and Basanta were declared as the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson respectively.
