JAC sets seven day deadline in Memicha killing case

IMPHAL, February 29: The Joint Action Committee formed against the alleged killing of Yumnam (n) Nongmaithem (o) Memicha Devi, 46 on February 26 has today set a seven-day deadline for the police to arrest the culprits, and warned to launch various forms of agitations in case of failure to meet the demand.

The JAC has also demanded a Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia for the bereaved family which should be delivered within a month.

Briefing media persons during a press conference at the Manipur Press Club today, co-convener of JAC, Ch Sumila claimed that Memicha Devi was killed with proper planning.

The JAC, she said has already submitted the names of suspicious individuals to the JAC Thoubal Police, but there has been no arrest till date.

She further demanded the police to arrest those whose names have been provided as suspicious and to interrogate them to find the truth.

She continued Memicha had been living with her husband and children at her parental home at Naharup Pangong Makhong under Porompat Police Station since about two years back.

Sumila continued Memicha failed to return home after going out on February 22.

Her lifeless body was found lying under paddy husk at Samaram panthak loukol around 10:30am near her husband’s home at Samaram Mamang Laibung Leikai, Nongmaithem Leirak, Thoubal, she added.

The report of the post mortem conducted on February 27 has indicated that her death was not a case of suicide, she added.
