KANGPOKPI, March 1: The United Naga Council (UNC), in a press statement has strongly condemned the Aimol Satu incident where an innocent school teacher was beaten to death by unidentified persons on February 29.

It said such unwanted and barbaric act of any group or individual cannot be justified for achieving one’s objectives when people are crying out for communal and ethnic harmony.

The use of violence against another to instigate ethnic flare ups is ‘unacceptable and the crime is condemned by all’, UNC said.

The apex body also appealed for peace and calm to prevail while asking the concerned authorities to immediately intervene into the matter and rehabilitate those victims affected by the unfortunate incident.

The statement issued by its publicity wing also informed that, UNC president and his colleagues along with Chandel Naga People’s Organization (CNPO) had visited the village today and met different sections of the people to share its solidarity.

The team also organized a session of prayer and interaction with the victim. It has called the competent authorities to intervene and take necessary measures for those affected victims and also avoid such incidents in the future, it stated.

UNC suspected that certain groups and communities through a well-designed plan is attempting to instigate ethnic violence by spreading misunderstandings among the different communities.

Such scrupulous and destructive agendas will not be tolerated by UNC and the people but will be dealt befittingly to protect the interest of the people, the statement added.
