IMPHAL, April 20: Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam called on the need of the cooperative movement to develop the sector to aid in the growth and development of the State.
Gaikhangam was speaking at the inaugural function of the SMART Land Development primary Co-op bank Ltd at Uripok Takhellambam Leikai today.
He said to uplift the cooperative societies, interdependency is essential among the public and the societies, without which there will be no development.
The State has lots of potential to develop, so the people need to put more efforts in those areas, he added.
During a visit to the State, the first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru had said Manipur is a rich State and that the people of Manipur has the ability to be satisfied with the things available, he said.
Gaikhangam also spoke on the need for more co-operatives to come up to develop the sector which will eventually help the people.
Social Welfare and Co-operative minister Ak mirabai said that the need of the hour in the State is to encourage green revolution and to improve the drainage system.
The present drainage system is in a sorry state, the minister rued.
