Some unidentified persons attacked a house at Sekmai Khunou Mathak Leikai, Imphal West district by hurling an explosive last night. A hand grenade was found near the kitchen of retired Cooperation Assistant Registrar Khwairakpam Gouro (78) at around 5.30 pm.
The hand grenade partially wrapped with a rubber tape was even picked up by Gouro’s wife Leima unknowingly. As soon as her sons pointed out that it was a hand grenade, she threw it back before it was retrieved by police.
A case has been registered at Sekmai police station in connection with the grenade attack. Meanwhile, local people staged a protest demonstration at Awang Sekmai Khunou community hall today against the act of placing a bomb inside a residential compound.
The protest demonstration was jointly organised by the Advance Women Society and the Sekmai Protection Committee. Sekmai Protection Committee president Angom Rajesh decried the act of placing a bomb at the residence of Kh Gouro who had retired from service about 10 years back. He appealed to all concerned to refrain from such activities in future. He further urged all the concerned to explain who planted the grenade and why.
