IMPHAL, Aug 17: Seven students have been taken to hospital after they took de-worming tablets.
Students of Medina Universal English School, Lilong Bazar were given de-worming tablets at around 10.30 am yesterday.
After a gap of just around 30 minutes, nine students complained of health problems and they were taken to Lilong Primary Health Centre.
As condition of six students improved after medication, they were discharged from the PHC. However, the remaining three were taken to RIMS.
The three students currently undergoing treatment have been identified as Khutheibam Usmani (15) d/o Md Abdul Khalique of Kyamgei, Sonia (15) s/o Md Firoz Khan of Lilong Bazar and Fakina Banu (15) d/o late Burhanuddin of Lilong. All of them are reading in Class X.
One of them said that she felt unwell soon after taking the de-worming tablet. Notably, de-worming tablet of the brand name Albendazole (400 mg) is manufactured by Bangalore based Karnataka Antibiotics and Pharmaceuticals Limited.
Health Director O Ibomcha maintained that the same brand of tablets were distributed too in February and there was no problem. He added that the three students presently undergoing treatment at RIMS are out of danger and they would be discharged soon.
