Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur, Justice Rakesh Ranjan Prasad was today sworn-in as Chief Justice at a ceremony held at the Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan, Imphal.

Governor of Manipur Dr. Najma A Heptulla administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly appointed Chief Justice.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh among others.

Later during an interaction with the media, Justice Prasad said his priority would be to reach out to people who could not get proper justice and those who are unaware of their rights.

He continued, we have to make the people understand their rights so that they are aware when their rights are violated or infringed upon.

The newly appointed Chief Justice said he will work to complete the pending cases, however, it would not be possible to complete all overnight and would take time.

He said he would ensure that those who could not get proper justice due to financial problems were given assistance.

The swearing-in ceremony was also attended by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, ministers and high ranking officers among others.

Prasad is the third Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court, which became a full fledged high court from March 13, 2013.

Born in Bihar on July 1, 1955, Prasad studied in Patna Law College. In 2001 he became a judge in Jharkhand. He has been the acting Chief Justice of Manipur High Court for some time.

He took over as Acting Chief Justice after Justice LK Mohapatra retired from service in June this year.
