IMPHAL, Feb 23: Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the State on February 25, Imphal West district police personnel today carried out search operation and sanitization work in and around Langjing Achouba playground where the PM would address an election rally.
The house to house search operation and sanitization work were conducted under the supervision of Additional SP (Operation) Imphal West, Dr S Ibomcha.
During the election rally, the PM would campaign for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the ensuing 11th State Legislativce Assembly election to be held in two phases on March 4 and 8.
A large number of people is expected to turn up in the rally.
At early morning, Imphal West police personnel cordoned the localities and surrounding villages of Langjing Achouba playground and conducted house to house search operation.
Individuals residing in the areas were verified by the police team. However, no one was detained in the verification.
The police team later carried out sanitization work of the playground and adjoining areas by using sniffer dogs to detect explosive devices.
Mention may be made that the election rally was earlier scheduled to be held at Kangla Fort but the proposal was rejected by Kangla Fort Board after different political parties and individuals raised stiff opposition. Later the venue was shifted to Langjing Achouba playground which is around 5 kms away from Imphal.
Narendra Modi who was the Prime Ministerial candidate for BJP had visited Manipur and addressed an election rally at Langjing Achouba in February, 2014 in connection with the Lok Sabha election.
