The Kohima District Administration led by the Deputy Commissioner, Rajesh Soundararajan, IAS called on the Chief Minister, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu at the Chief Minister’s Office, Civil Secretariat on 27th April, 2017 and apprised him on the Energy Efficient programme which is under the umbrella of National Programme Ujala.
The Chief Minister expressed happiness over the programme which he said will be of great help to the public since the whole of the state faces power deficiency. These bulbs have longevity, efficiency and are cost effective, it’ll save electricity to a great extent, he said.
Dr. Shürhozelie also lauded the team for taking the initiative to avail the Energy Efficiency Programme and for the other Schemes coming up.
Even though there are schemes available for us we often don’t know how to avail them and I extend my sincere appreciation to the Kohima District Administration team, the Chief Minister said.
In his short speech Deputy Commissioner, Rajesh said the basic purpose of the Initiative was to reduce energy consumption in Nagaland and to overcome the frequent power cuts and transformer overloads. Along with the bulbs, LED tube lights and energy efficient Fans are also distributed.
The bulbs which are distributed have a market cost of Rs. 350 to Rs. 700 but they are distributed at a nominal cost of Rs. 70, which was further brought down to Rs. 63 recently, according to the DC. The bulbs are of reputed brands like Philips and the warranty is of 3 years. In case of any problem the consumer can bring the bulb to the distribution point and collect a new bulb during the 3 year warranty period, DC said.
Assistant Commissioner, Reny Wilfred, IAS (P)who took an active part in bringing the initiative said that the District Administration team is planning to reach out to children in Education sector especially in Math and Science subjects in an innovative way. He added that soon fingerlings will be distributed to some villages on a trial basis in order to further develop fish farming.
The Chief Minister also gave away cost-free Energy Efficient Bulbs to some beneficiaries. The team has tied up with Social Welfare Department and free bulbs will be distributed to Old Age Homes, Observation Homes, Children’s Homes and others.
