National Highway 102 (A) which connects Ukhrul-Toloi-Tadubi is all set to be restored and turned into a two lane highway of 40 ft by the end of this year.
The said highway which length of 115 km, was announced as a highway by the previous government in the year 2012 but no work has been taken up to maintain the road.
It can be mentioned here that for, the State Government has suspended the contract work awarded to M/s Bhartia Infra Projects Limited, Guwahati on October 26, 2016 by NHIDCL for the Ukhrul-Tolloi-Tadubi by taking note of the complaint which got viral in the social media. The company which had the contract work for the restoration/reconstruction of the said road stretch.
The decision to suspend the contract work was taken at the instruction of Chief Minister N Biren Singh on May 1.
Minister Dikho further stressed on the importance and the significance of the road and expressed dismay upon seeing the pathetic condition of the highway.
He said the project which cost of 64 crore was included fortunately among the packages announced by Union Minister of Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari on December 12 last year during the function to lay the foundation stones for 17 road projects at a cost of Rs 1152 crore held at Jiribam and Imphal.
Expressing contentment over the announcement made earlier last year, he promised to finish the project by the end of this year.
SunilKumar general manager Manipur of NHDCL said the work will be divided into two phases, at first, to restore the road first in order to rehabilitate for the time being. Secondly, to build two lane pavement wherein all the specification of a highway will be made available.
Government has already notified for the land acquisition to respective DC, as soon as we get the estimate the tender will conduct, he concludes.
